New for the 2025 season

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has long been a beacon of architectural excellence, recognizing and celebrating outstanding achievements in the field through the prestigious awards programs in its portfolio. To further enhance impact and accessibility to the awards portfolio, AIA is streamlining the awards submission timelines and improving the submission process beginning with the 2025 season.

A common, consolidated submission form has been adopted for all project-based awards to provide users a more cohesive and simplified experience. Further, applicants who elect to submit eligible projects to multiple AIA award programs will benefit from a new submission fee structure, whereby the first submission is $450 and subsequent submission of the same project to additional programs costs an extra $100 per category.

AIA award programs involved in this consolidated application can be accessed via the application titled "2025 AIA Universal Project-Based Award Submission" and include the following:

  • AIA/ALA Library Building Award
  • Architecture Award
  • COTE Top 10 Award
  • Design for Aging Review Award
  • Education Facility Design Award
  • HealthCare Design Award
  • Housing Award
  • Interior Architecture Award
  • Justice Facilities Review Award
  • Regional and Urban Design Award
  • Small Project Award

This unified approach reduces the administrative burden on applicants submitting to multiple award programs, fostering a smoother, more efficient process from start to finish. Moreover, a consolidated submission enables AIA to enhance standardized submission criteria and evaluation metrics across award categories. This consistency ensures each submission is judged fairly and thoroughly, upholding the high standards of excellence that AIA awards represent. We believe these strategic changes promise to enhance the overall experience for AIA award applicants, judges, and the architectural community.
